Shaving and Razor Bumps

How to Shave/ Avoid Razor Bumps:

This is the most common question I get from my male patients especially in skin of color. Here are seven tips:

1. Shave right after you shower (so skin and hair are softened and free of excess oil or dead skin cells that can clog a razor)

2. Use a foaming shaving cream (circular motion using a shave brush to lift the hairs)

3. Allow cream to sit for 2-3 minutes (helps penetrate and soften hairs)

4. Shave in the direction the hair grows (key to preventing razor bumps and burns)

5. Rinse after each razor swipe

6. Post shave rinse with cold water then moisturize (this will reduce inflammation)

7. Store your razor in a dry area (this will prevent bacterial growth)
